Welcome to the Vergers' Guild of the Episcopal Church. We are a service organization based in the United States and dedicated to helping vergers in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion world-wide.
The Guild has nearly one thousand members and a large number of interested clergy and lay persons who rely on us for information, training, fellowship, products, support, and much more. Our numbers are growing as we enter the second decade of the twenty-first century.
We hope that you will find this site helpful as we strive to provide information and resources that you need in your ministry in the church.
How to use this siteThe menus to the left are the best way to move through the site and to find what you might be looking for at www.vergers.org. You can also use the search box located at the upper right to search the entire contents of the site.
The first menu is called "Quick Links" and this has links to the newest and more popular sections of the site. The lower "Site Menu" has a detailed list of all pages on the site organized by topic and section.
Join Us focuses on ways that you can quickly get involved with the Guild. We have a free e-mail newsletter called V-Happenings that will keep you informed of Guild activities and news. The V-List is a free moderated discussion group that many Vergers use to get feedback about many aspects of ministry and service. You can become a member of the Guild, attend the 2010 conference in Washington, DC, or you can take our extensive training course to become a "Fellow of the Guild."
About Us has a welcome message from Guild President Margaret McLarty and an ever-growing number of FAQs or "Frequently Asked Questions" that might help you better understand the role of the verger in the modern day church. There is also Verger 101 which is a short guideline for clergy who may be considering a verger ministry for their own parish. In addition, there are several short narratives on "The Verger Today," The History of the Guild," "The History of Verging and Vergers" and a page for Guild Leadership and information about the this site.
Conferences has information about the upcoming Vergers' Guild Annual Conference on October 7, 2010 through October 11, 2010 at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC. We also have a growing history of past conferences. The Annual Guild conference is a great way to learn more about the ministry of the Verger and to meet many other Vergers from around the world.
We also have a brand new online Guild Shoppe Online Store where you can browse a wide selection of available merchandise and products including jewelry, clothing, memberships, training courses, and much more.
Training has complete information about the optional "Course of Training for the Verger" which over 150 men and women have completed.
We also have a News and Announcements section and also a Resources section that contains many verger related items of interest.
